I liked this a lot, but I didn’t love it. Dan Gilroy doesn’t seem positive if his movie is like a Network style takedown of the media, or a Fight Club style takedown of capitalism. I know a lot of folks say it’s both, but it has to pick one if it wants to move from good to great.
And Jake Gyllenhaal is indeed phenomenal here. What a trippy performance.
