It’s that time of year again: Stack Overflow has published the results from their 2026 Developer Survey. I think the design is particularly excellent this year, and the wealth of the data that’s available is fantastic.
Web development is a part of my job, but I consider it a secondary or tertiary element (designer > web developer, basically). So it’s always interesting to see what’s happening outside of my little bubble.
This year’s questions were so focussed on AI that it was obvious Stack Overflow is going through something. Obviously the whole industry is changing rapidly thanks to LLMs, but Stack Overflow has clearly taken the hit. The questions mostly felt like they were trying to figure out what happened to them in real time.
