Of course there is only one guy who maintains PHP packages. His name is Ondřej Surý. He saved the internet this week. The Atlantic interviewed him (it’s a great interview; that’s a gift link). Surý is the absolute epitome of XKCD 2347.
This whole PHP debacle was a real mess this morning. I have spent several hours since debating whether or not I should start building client sites on headless CMS solutions like Sanity going forward. No pun intended, but lower-case sanity has prevailed, and I came to the very obvious conclusion that whatever fits my clients’ needs best is what I should suggest. (That will never be WordPress, but there are plenty of great PHP-driven CMS options out there.)
