Wife’s pick. She’s under the weather and chose this as her comfort food movie.” Should I be concerned?

Natalie Portman is amazing. Perhaps my distaste for his later work is coming through, or maybe it’s because I discovered Red Shoes later in life and much preferred it, but I found Darren Aronofsky’s direction distracting to the point of annoyance. Feels like he’s trying so hard to make it edgy, while being stylish, but he’s like the dad pretending to be one of the kids. It just doesn’t work. Aronofsky reminds me of Zack Snyder, but informed by a pretentious arts school.
