There’s a cynical edge to this noir that’s missing from most of its peers, but because of that very thing, this film would slot in nicely alongside modern neo-noir filmmaking. It seems to me that there’s a straight line connecting The Big Heat to Seven

Surprisingly close to a Batman movie: a detective realizes there’s nobody on the force he can trust and becomes a vigilante to find the criminals outside the system. Will he kill the criminals, and in doing so, join their ranks? Or will he keep his humanity even as he wades through the depths of human lawlessness?

Would love to see a Fincher-esque style remake of this.
