This reminds me so much of Seven. In many regards, clearly a masterpiece of directorial vision and cinematography. The cast is impeccable. And yet, it is so gruesome and grim in its depiction of humanity that I hope I never see it again (see footnote). What others have called a celebration of violent revenge is so clearly, adamantly against it. But it can’t look away. We need to see it for ourselves. We will never understand this. We are just observers.
