In every way the opposite of Sicario, Arrival is a film that celebrates humanity at its best. It’s hard to me to think of a more flawed film that I love more than this. Politically, philosophically, etc., this is all over the place. (It also succumbs to my pet peeve; I hate it when movies have news reels explaining story beats.)

And yet, I love this movie. Extraordinary pacing, direction, and vision throughout. Amy Adams is a wunderkind. It might be among my favourite films, warts and all, because the experience is so unlike anything else.
