Stunning direction, great acting, memorable characters. The story feels overwrought and the stakes aren’t high enough. Clearly Kurosawa was an incredible director, but there were multiple points where I thought the script needed another pass.
Granted, this is my first viewing of this. I could see it growing on me with a second.
