I didn’t like this anywhere near as much as the first one. It tries to do too much, and as a result, the theme gets muddy. The villain’s plan is fine, but the villain is so boring that the third act is largely composed of heroes fighting each other. Unlike the first movie, it doesn’t feel like Incredibles 2 has anything meaningful to say.

That being said, it does a number of things right. The second act, with Bob looking after the kids while Elastigirl saves the world, is unbelievably charming. Jack Jack is hilarious (even though he’s also a deus ex machina in the third act whose presence greatly lowers the tension).

But in the end, it just doesn’t really come together the way the first one did. I had fun, but compared to the first film, this is sloppy.
