And parents everywhere rejoiced there is something their children want to watch other than Frozen.
The thing is, Moana is nowhere near as good of a movie. The characters are less intriguing, the story much less fresh, and the songs less interesting.
If anything, Moana is the Disney formula perfected. But do we really need another formulaic Disney movie? Or do we need stuff that flirts with breaking long-established rules? That’s what makes Frozen so good. That’s what Moana is missing.
