The Rashomon structure doesn’t work at all. The crime is too heinous; perspective is irrelevant. All it did was pad the length. If you knocked 45 minutes to an hour of this thing, you could make the structure work way better and tighten the proceedings.
The final duel was excellent, and I enjoyed pieces of each perspective on their own, but none of this comes together cohesively. On top of that, the natural visual aesthetic felt undercooked to me. Normally I think Ridley has a great sense of style, but this just looked bland.
Thought Jodie Comer and Adam Driver were great. Everybody else felt miscast.
