This is an extremely silly, very dumb movie masquerading as action for the intelligent and thoughtful person. Of course, that combination will make a lot of thoughtful and intelligent people very upset.
But I am a giant sucker for movies all about People Who Are Good At Their Jobs, and I kind of loved this. It’s not a classic of the genre like Zodiac or Phantom Thread or All The President’s Men. It’s extremely dopey, and most of the plot is entirely implausible. The “twist” is emotionally charged and intellectually vapid. The colour grading is inconsistent, particularly in flashbacks. The editing varies from excellent to nutty.
But listen: movies like this are my catnip. I’d happily watch this again.
