I loved this. Schrader has become a remarkably mature filmmaker over the past ten years. This film feels much more optimistic than his past features. I thought it was refreshing. Beautifully shot, with excellent blocking. I think it would pair better with Punch Drunk Love than it would, say, First Reformed. (I still haven’t seen The Card Counter, but it is on my list.)
