If you can get past the unfortunate racial stereotypes — and that is certainly a big if for many folks — this is really a tremendous picture. Arthur Kennedy plays an incredible foil to Stewart, and Stewart really shows off his prowess in these Mann films. The first 20 minutes or so made me very uncomfortable, but the rest was a rousing triumph.
