In 2003, it was clear Jackson was the best filmmaker and storyteller of our time. A modern George Lucas, who could do no wrong. These films changed the course of Hollywood blockbusters forever, for better or for worse.
It’s too bad Hollywood learned we would repeatedly go watch annual instalments of serialized adventures on screen. I wish they learned we want to have these huge, romantic epics that treat grand adventure and courage as an adult thing — not as an opportunity for cynicism or quips.
This was my generation’s Star Wars. I’ve lost all objectivity towards it. And I’m okay with that.
