It’s absolutely brutally unflinching in its portrayal of evil and darkness, and difficult to watch — but also completely engrossing. As always, Fincher shoots like it’s a documentary — steady camera, observing each frame like a silent observer — and it is enthralling, yet also sickening. 

An incredible accomplishment, and yet I’m also glad I only forget how sick it makes me feel once every half a decade or so.
