The effects hold up remarkably well, and it’s immediately obvious this is the best Godzilla story on celluloid. But it’s also very on the nose and very jarring, stylistically. The latter has not aged well, at all. I’m not usually bothered by this sort of thing, but I found the harsh cuts difficult to watch and consistently distracting.
