It’s so darn self-assured. Really incredible that this is a debut film. It’s also incredible how little the Coens have changed. 35 years later and the only new ingredient to their dominant worldview is sentimentality (True Grit, Llewyn Davis). It’s like they were birthed into the world and knew exactly what sort of films they wanted to make.
