This did a million things I like, but also, it’s kind of a mess? It seems confused about whether or not it wants to be hard sci-fi or a space adventure. The voiceover is bizarre, and makes the film less smart than it ought to be.
But, despite all that: the direction, acting, visuals, and score are all deeply impressive and immersive. I loved this movie for all those reasons.
If the studio is willing to let James Gray make a million edits and versions and remove the voiceover, this could be a great Blade Runner for our generation.
