This was the most stressed I’ve been watching a movie in forever. But the first thing we did when we finished watching it was to google him and find out if him and his girlfriend are still together. Because while he’s doubtlessly talented, he’s also kind of a dick.
Oddly enough, his friends — the people who film him — seem as confused about him as I am. The way they frame him is simple: we don’t get it either, we think he’s nuts, and he’s obviously a dick. Then, the movie just ends. And it ends with him saying maybe he’ll figure out what’s cooler than El Cap and climb that.
It’s like his buddies filming him left it in as a rub: “is this really that cool?”
What I’m saying, I guess, is that this is effective filmmaking about a subject who is very hard to watch.
