So great to have Spidey back. Definitely the best Spidey flick since 2, but a little less self-contained and more episodic this go-around. Tom Holland is sensational, along with the rest of the cast. Hilarious flick too.

There’s a particularly fantastic bit of film-making that kicks off the third act, where the stakes are suddenly lifted. I don’t want to say it’s totally unpredictable, but you could hear a pin drop in my theatre and the air got sucked out of the room. Great moment.

The only thing this film is missing? The first two movies were great because they were about how we all have a hero in us, and how we all become that hero when we make sacrifices for the betterment of the people and communities around us.

This film suggests that we all have heroes within us, if we’re willing to dig deep enough. But it’s not as strong about it. And the second factor, about what heroism means — it’s only hinted at here. But I suspect this Spider-Man will have a few more trials to endure, so we’ll have time to find out if any of this comes to fruition. I say bring it on.
