There wasn’t anything wrong with Sing, and it’s easy to argue this is the kind of movie we need at the end of 2016. It’s a feelgood movie about a bunch of animals overcoming opposition and doing something incredible. But the thing is, despite a colourful and quirky cast, this flick stands well under Zootopia’s shadow. And beside the towering thrills of La La Land, which was playing on the neighbouring screen when I saw Sing, Sing doesn’t have much to add.
Lovers of musicals will enjoy this. For the rest of us, there’s Zootopia and La La Land.
